Thermal Underwear
Stay warm outdoors in thermal underwear
For those living in colder climates, packing away the shorts and sandals and taking out the thermal underwear is an annual event. Even those of us who live in sunny states might own some thermal underwear to wear on vacation.
It’s important to note that not all thermal underwear is created equal. Traditional thermal underwear can actually cause your body to sweat during periods of physical exertion. You may have noticed this if you’ve ever peeled off your thermal socks or thermal shirt after shoveling the driveway and found them to be surprisingly moist. Sweating isn’t necessarily a bad thing, because the body only sweats when it’s warm (and staying warm is what thermal underwear is all about). It can be uncomfortable, however, if your body cool downs while you’re still wearing your thermals. Suddenly, you can find yourself in cold, wet underwear. This can even be dangerous, as it exposes the body to the possibility of hypothermia.
If you require thermal underwear for long periods of time, such as during a full day on the slopes or a long hike through the woods, it’s a good idea to look for underwear that offers moisture-wicking properties. For example, Patagonia offers a line of base layer clothing that features moisture-wicking polyester fabric that dries quickly. The company boasts that Patagonia thermal underwear keeps the body warm and dry.
Moisture-wicking thermal products tend to be a bit more expensive than traditional thermal underwear because they are made out of specially-designed fabrics. They are well worth the extra money, though, if you’re the kind of person who likes to spend time outdoors during the winter months. Think of it as an investment in your own comfort and warmth.
Womens Thermal Underwear
Thermal underwear might be the farthest thing from sexy lingerie there is, but there are a few options for women who don’t want to sacrifice style in order to stay warm. Whereas cotton thermal underwear tends to be quite bulky, silk underwear actually provides just as much warmth and looks much sleeker, so it’s preferred by many women. Instead of unflattering thermal underwear pants, you can choose curve-hugging tights and a top to keep warm.
